Burying Ghosts is an interactive art installation that explores memory, nostalgia, and the act of uncovering and laying ghosts to rest. The centerpiece of the installation was a reconstructed version of my childhood bedroom, incorporating much of the original furniture. To this space, I added collaged picture frames and shadow boxes, enriching the room with layers of personal history. In place of a traditional bed, I built a grave from broken pieces of my home's walls, symbolizing both loss and transformation. This choice also paid homage to my roots in Smelter Town/La Calavera, grounding the installation in the landscape of my past. By recreating this intimate atmosphere, I offered the community a space to reflect on their own childhoods and memories, inviting them to confront and honor the ghosts of their histories.
Grief & Rebirth: After Burying Ghosts Winter 2022
Grief and Rebirth emerged as a response to Burying Ghosts. I realized there was more that needed to be laid to rest—grief, I discovered, is not a singular event but an ongoing process. This realization inspired me to continue exploring the complexities of grief and the possibilities of transformation that come with it.
